One year of food diversity

 DIVERSIFOOD celebrated its first birthday! Started in March 2015, the project has now reached its first objectives to promote food diversity and quality in an innovative way.

It was an intense year. Meetings, public events, trainings, field experiments: all these actions were organized with the overall goal of enriching the diversity of cultivated plants through a multi-actor approach.

Launch of ORC Wakelyns Population at National Organic Combinable Crops (NOCC15)

The Organic Research Centre has pioneered an evolutionary breeding programme to produce a hugely diverse population of wheat suited to organic and low-input farming systems. This year, for the first time, ORC is marketing it as ORC Wakelyns Population.

Populations are genetically diverse. All plants are genetically distinct while all of those in standard pureline varieties are almost identical. This means that populations are better able to adapt to unpredictable environments, including weather and pest/disease pressures.

ARSIAL – Incontri tecnici su potatura e innesto

ARSIAL nell’ambito dell’attività di tutela della biodiversità agraria del Lazio (in applicazione della L.R. 15/2000) ha organizzato 5 incontri su argomenti di tecnica colturale delle piante arboree con particolare riferimento ai sistemi di potatura e propagazione di fruttiferi, olivo e vite di varietà locali, da svolgersi nelle 5 provincie del Lazio.

 

L’incontro, in collaborazione con Rete Semi Rurali, prevede una fase dimostrativa svolta dal tecnico Renato Pavia, che proporrà una dimostrazione delle principali tecniche di coltivazione, potatura e innesto delle piante da frutto e dell’olivo.

 

L’incontro è rivolto sia agli agricoltori che coltivano le varietà locali di piante arboree del Lazio (aderenti alla Rete di Conservazione e Sicurezza secondo la LR 15/2000) che ai coltivatori di piante arboree da frutto e/o di olivo.
