40th Session

CFS 40 is just a week away
Final preparations are now underway for the 40th Session of CFS which will be from 7 – 11 October 2013 in FAO, Rome, Italy.

Policy Round Tables
As mentioned in the April 2013 CFS Update, there will be policy round tables on ‘Biofuels and food security’ and ‘Investing in smallholder agriculture for food security and nutrition'.

Coordination and Linkages with CFS
The overall theme for this session is “Multi-stakeholder Models that Promote Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture: Towards the Post-2015 Development Agenda.” The three interactive panel discussions facilitated by Dr David Nabarro, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Food Security and Nutrition are:

Global Panel: Post 2015 Development Agenda
Regional Panel: G8 Alliance for food security and nutrition in the context of CAADP
National Level:
Brazil – The National Council of Food and Nutrition Security (CONSEA): Ms Pacheco, President, CONSEA.
Thailand: nutrition impact of agriculture and food systems: Prof Kraisid Tontisirin.

CFS Special Event
On Friday 11th October from 9.30 to 12.30 there will be a Special Event organized by FAO, IFAD and WFP entitled:

“Natural resource management for food security in the context of the Post-2015 Development Agenda: empowering small scale food producers and food insecure communities to be agents of change”

The moderator will be the BBC news presenter Zeinab Badawi who will be joined by a distinguished panel.
