Conference – Genetic resources for EU agriculture: status and vision, Bruxelles
We are pleased to announce you that the Preparatory action on EU plant and animal genetic resources
and the European Commission will hold a conference to present findings, conclusions, and preliminary
recommendations resulting from the preparatory action.
The conference will take place in the Charlemagne Building of the European Commission in Brussels
on 9 June 2016, from 9:00 until 16:30. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in FR-DE-EN-IT-ES- PT-EL-NL-HU-PL-BG-RO.
Following an initiative by the European Parliament, the European Commission (DG Agriculture and
Rural Development) contracted the consortium led by VVA to carry out the “Preparatory action on
EU plant and animal genetic resources”.
The objectives of the preparatory action have been to:
Identify, describe, and analyse activities undertaken in the EU on the conservation and sustainable use of agricultural and forest genetic resources, and
Identify missing links and actions to be addressed in future actions on the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources in agriculture and forestry.
The study has covered the 28 EU Member States in the following four domains:
l Plant genetic resources;
l Animal genetic resources;
l Forest genetic resources; and
l Microbial and invertebrate genetic resources.

Participants</a> will include e.g. public authorities, research organisations, international experts, end-users, the agro-food industry, advisory services, seed savers’ organisations, and breeding associations from across the European Union
